THE LOSER is an 8 song album from New York’s GOSPEL. Recorded by Kurt Ballou and mastered by Magnus Lindberg, it is the first official release from the band since 2005’s acclaimed The Moon is a Dead World.
Sonically, the record showcases Gospel’s anomalous brand of psychedelic hardcore–now matured into something more emotionally complex and desperate sounding. Genre taxonomy proves null here and all reference points are fleeting; this is GOSPEL. Their singular sound is more powerful than ever. Thematically, the album is about a broken quest for recovery; a surreal and impressionistic bad-trip through billiard halls, underpasses, and bus stations; a search for the home that may not exist. The Loser is a story told in subtext by an unreliable narrator. It is not not a musical. Fuck, it probably is.
